Shaw and Valerie Edwards deal in early English oak furniture, carvings and related works of art from the late medieval and early Renaissance periods of the 13th century through to the early 17th century. Shaw has been dealing in antiques since the 1960s. Their particular interest lies in the secular and religious carvings of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries covering the Medieval and gothic periods. The carvings are crafted from many different woods including oak and walnut, with occasional pieces in yew. His stock includes English oak furniture including coffers, tables, chairs and related works from the late 15th century, through to the 16th and 17th centuries. Shaw Edwards Antiques is based in the delightful village of Hatherleigh, in Devon, where visitors are invited to view their stock by appointment, or to meet Shaw, together with his wife Valerie, at one of the antiques fair at which they exhibit. They are regular exhibitors at the BADA Fair held at the Duke of York Square each March and at the LAPADA Fair held in Berkeley Square in September. Together with other BADA members from around the country they also display a selection of stock at Taylour House, a fine medieval building that is part of the Edenbridge Galleries in Kent, which lends itself perfectly to the display of Shaw’s stock from the same period.
