David Lavender established his company in 1948. Since boyhood his passion for beautiful things and wanting to know more instilled a desire which has led him now to be an authority on portrait miniatures from the 16th to early 18th centuries.
Through DS Lavender Antiques Ltd he offers collectors a beautiful and carefully chosen selection of fine portrait miniatures, painted onto a variety of media, including enamel and vellum, and set in frames, some simple and some encrusted in jewels.
Portrait miniatures do not represent the limit of the business’s stock, which includes snuffboxes, jewellery and objets d’art. Museum curators are among the clientele that have purchased from DS Lavender Antiques over the years.
David’s discerning eye and perception meant that he has served on numerous antique vetting committees at the former Grosvenor House Antique Fair, where the company exhibited for many years. He has also helped advise many collectors on the creation of their important collections.
David previously served as a London Councillor on the Council of The British Antique Dealers’ Association.
