A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear colleagues,

The art and antiques trade, whether we consciously think about it or not, is part of a continuum. Dealers before us have helped to create the market of today. I can't help thinking how my field, English antique furniture, has benefitted hugely by dealers (not to mention curators and collectors) who have given their time to such groups as the Furniture History Society. Of course, when markets waver or become less dynamic, this commitment diminishes. It does not, however, go away and is part of a repository for the future. I think we should remember that the various fields we are in all owe a debt of gratitude to those who went before. Furthermore, I hope we all recognize that there will be those that follow us and that they will inherit whatever we contribute.

Best regards,

Clinton Howell
