Barbara Cattle

Barbara Cattle

Barbara Cattle first set up her shop in 1962, in the heart of the historic city of York, at the time specialising in period and modern jewellery. Management of the company is today in the hands of Richard Pool and Kelly Taylor, who sell fine jewellery, as well as silver and Old Sheffield plate.

The business is run from first-floor apartments in a restored Georgian building. The room has been sensitively restored to include pieces of antique furniture and provides the perfect setting for visitors to browse and buy from their extensive collection both of fine antique silver and jewellery as well as modern pieces.

Barbara Cattle came from a family well-known in the antique silver and jewellery trade and her father, William Lee, left his substantial silver collection to York Minster where it is still housed today in the Treasury. Barbara married Robert Cattle, a former Lord Mayor of York and ancestor of the famous York silversmith, also Robert Cattle, of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

The company ethos remains unchanged and the firm, with its knowledgeable staff, encourages buyers both to view and handle the pieces.

The firm also provides gemstone testing and diamond certification as well as restoration and repair services.

Barbara Cattle is York's only BADA member.
