Eskenazi Ltd

The Eskenazi family business was founded in Milan in 1923 and today the company enjoys an international reputation as one of the leading names in the field of Chinese art. 2010 marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the London gallery which has become a magnet for collectors and curators in this field.

In 1993 the firm moved from Foxglove House in Piccadilly, where it had been located since it opened in London in 1960, to its current premises at 10 Clifford Street, just off Bond Street. The interior of this six-storey redbrick building in the late 19th century Flemish Renaissance style was redesigned by Jon Bannenberg in association with the architects M.R. Partnership and houses two floors of exhibition space as well as offices and an extensive reference library.

The gallery is run by Giuseppe and his son Daniel Eskenazi, with specialists Philip Constantinidi and Sarah Wong. Eskenazi Ltd handles Chinese art, including ceramics (porcelain and pottery), sculpture, bronze, jade and furniture; from the Shang, through to Zhou, Han, Six Dynasties, Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming to the early Qing period. Every November, the gallery holds a special exhibition which concentrates on a particular theme or collection.

Over the years Eskenazi's clients have included over 80 museums and institutions from all over the world, as well as many internationally important private collectors. The exhibitions are accompanied by researched publications and early important examples were 'Ancient Chinese Bronzes from the Stoclet and Wessén Collections', 'Chinese and Korean Art from the Collections of Dr. Franco Vannotti, Hans Popper and others', 'Chinese Art from the Reach Family Collection', 'Chinese Lacquer from the Jean-Pierre Dubosc Collection' and 'Ancient Chinese Sculpture from the Alsdorf Collection'.
