Newman Fine Art was established by Derek Newman in 2004, following the death of his mother and business partner, Heather. The business has a policy of specialisation in fine quality British watercolours & drawings of the 18th, 19th & 20th centuries, a policy Heather established forty years ago in her Gloucestershire home, where Derek first joined her in partnership in 1986.
In the 1960s and 70s watercolours of these periods were greatly undervalued, as their quality and importance to the development of British art was still in the early stages of recognition. Many clients were introduced to the subject for the first time and were assisted in building significant collections at the bi-annual exhibitions of both the Heather Newman Gallery and its successor, Newman Fine Art.
The gallery is open throughout the year by appointment and holds two catalogued exhibitions a year in Gloucestershire.
Derek Newman has been Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Watercolours + Works on Paper Fair for the past 12 years and has exhibited at the fair since established in 1986.
