Expertise |Giltwood mirrors and tables, mainly English 18th-century; decorative woodcarvings; restoration of giltwood items
Ossowski are a long established firm of specialised antiques dealers selling English long 18th century mainly gilded, but some painted, furniture - predominately mirrors, but also side and centre tables, and decorative wood-carvings.

The business was founded in 1960 when Albin Ossowski opened at the premises in Pimlico Road, London, where the firm is still based. Unique, in mainly specialising in English 18th-century antique looking-glasses, their collective knowledge and experience in this field is well-known and respected.

Looking-glasses are highly-prized and appreciated mainly because the 18th century was a period when the highest artistic sensibility combined with the finest craftsmanship. At the same time there existed an economic elite, keen to keep up with the latest fashions and willing to spend in order to do so. These conditions brought us the finest furniture ever made, and these mirror frames are superb exemplars of this period and of its styles.

Albin Ossowski is now in his nineties so has taken more of a back seat, leaving greater responsibility to his three sons, whilst available to them for advice and consultation.

Matthew Ossowski joined his father in the firm in the 1960s when he was sixteen. He is now a leading authority on English 18th-century giltwood, gained from decades of experience in both the dealing world and, crucially, in the firm’s restoration workshop. John Ossowski works in the firm’s workshop, meticulous in his attention to detail, thereby ensuring any that the restoration undertaken, either on stock or clients’ pieces, is properly carried out. Mark Ossowski calls himself the baby of the business and runs the gallery. He sees his role as proselytizing the wonders of the looking-glasses from this period.
