Moxhams Antiques
Moxhams Antiques have been established in Bradford-on-Avon for 40 years. They have one of the largest stocks outside London of good period English and Continental furniture from the late seventeenth to the late nineteenth century, displayed in 11 spacious showrooms in the shop and in the warehouse to the rear. Emphasis is placed on originality, good proportions, quality and untouched colour and patination.
Town furniture includes library and dining room furniture – dining tables and chairs, breakfront bookcases. There is usually a good four-poster and other bedroom furniture in stock. They are particularly keen on the Sheraton period and the lines of a good standard-end sofa table or pair of demi-lune card tables. In country furniture they usually have several good dressers, court cupboards and farm or refectory tables on display.
The business is run by Nick Bichard, in partnership with his mother Jill: Nick has had 20 years training from his late father Roger, who died recently. The stock is currently further bolstered with pieces from the collection Roger and Jill Bichard. Nick travels widely throughout England and Scotland in search of good stock for the business and also sources decorative items from Europe. Recently Moxhams has acquired things as diverse as a beautiful 18th-century inlaid table from Scotland, a pair of stained glass cinema windows of a clown and a pierrot from the 1950s and a 17th-century armorial tapestry.
