Argento Gallery

Argento Gallery

Argento Gallery is a gallery that focuses on 17th-century Dutch portraits. The focus lies on researching, conserving, and selling works from the Golden Age.

The gallery was founded in 2024 and stems from a personal commitment that goes back more than two decades. During that period, I bought my first portrait by an Old Master. Not a famous work, but certainly a defining moment. Face to face with a seventeenth-century sitter, a direct connection was formed. That feeling has remained.

Research is central to every work. Style, technique, material, and provenance are examined. Experienced specialists collaborate with for restoration and art-historical substantiation. Restoration is a fixed part of the working method. Not to “make something more beautiful,” but to preserve the work for the future.

The collection consists of portraits of museum quality, including works by Johannes Cornelisz. Verspronck, Nicolaes Maes, and Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt
and Jan Anthonisz. van Ravesteyn.

The gallery works with private collectors and institutions, both domestically and internationally. Additionally, it participates in art fairs, including PAN Amsterdam.
