Hein A.M. Klaver

In 2022, Hein A.M. Klaver Art Gallery celebrated its 30th anniversary. A jubilee year for Hein Klaver and his wife, Laura Fresco. They run the art gallery jointly. Hein works with the collection on a daily basis, while Laura is responsible for all communication and publicity.
Hein Klaver's passion for art was evident from an early age. In the 1980s, his father, Jacobus A. Klaver, built up a magnificent collection of 17th-century Dutch drawings, always accompanied by his son when art purchases were made. The collection was of such high quality that the Print Cabinet of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam dedicated an exhibition to it in 1993, titled “Drawings by Old Masters: The Jacobus A. Klaver Collection.”

Helping to build this collection of drawings led to a passion for works on paper that is so characteristic of Hein Klaver. After having managed the art collection of a major collector for many years, Hein Klaver started his own art dealership on De Lairessestraat in Amsterdam in 1992. He specialized in drawings, watercolors, and pastels, though not 17th-century drawings. The period 1880–1950 fascinated Hein much more. A period characterized by a diversity of art movements. From the Hague School to Symbolism, from Impressionism to Expressionism. From Fauvism to Magical Realism.

In addition to works on paper, you will also find oil paintings in the collection of Hein A.M. Klaver Art Dealership. Hague School painters such as Willem Roelofs, Jacob Maris, Johannes Bosboom, and Hendrik Willem Mesdag; Tachtigers such as Isaac Israels, George Breitner, Willem Bastiaan Tholen, Willem Witsen, and Jacobus van Looy; and Modernists such as Leo Gestel, Jan Sluijters, and Jan Toorop.
